In a CO2 Fractional Laser treatment your skin will be treated with a matrix of laser points that vary in intensity, depending on the skin type and desired treatment results. The laser energy heats the water in the cells until the affected tissue evaporates. Some heat is absorbed by tissue adjacent to the target area, causing tissue coagulation as well as stimulating the formation of new collagen.

Treatment with CO2 Fractional Laser can dramatically improve the appearance of acne scars, deep scars, stretch marks and deep wrinkles. It can almost entirely remove fine lines and wrinkles as well as sun damage, brown spots and pigmentation. It is also effective at tightening skin, minimising pores and improving tone.

The preparation before the procedure usually includes:

You can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment but the anaesthetic cream applied before the procedure typically makes any discomfort tolerable.

Depending on the size of the treatment area and the skin concern treated, some downtime can be required. Full recovery can take 5-10 days. Immediately after skin will be red, feel tight and warm. In a few days, the treated area will turn brown and begin to itch before shedding to reveal a fresh layer of skin. This skin must be protected from sun exposure for at least 4 months.

The CO2 Fractional Laser is not for everyone. Individuals with extensive breakouts, open wounds, a history of difficulty healing or scarring, those with bleeding disorders or any infections on the face are advised to avoid this skin procedure. People who take oral isotretinoin or Accutane should also avoid this procedure, as well as those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
