Intelligent Tanning: Why a Glow Should Never Come at the Cost of Your Skin

Why a Glow Should Never Come at the Cost of Your Skin

Dr Sebagh Self-Tanning Drops — intelligent tanning with HEV light defence

There is a particular kind of vanity in tanning that has always felt slightly old-fashioned: the idea that colour is the goal, and everything else (skin health, longevity, what happens to your face in ten years) is secondary. At Dr Sebagh, we have never been able to separate the two. A tan that ages you faster than the sun itself was never the answer. Which is exactly why the conversation around self-tan needed to change.

Self-Tanning Drops were created to settle this argument properly. They are, to our knowledge, the first self-tanner formulated not simply to add colour, but to actively help defend the skin against one of the most overlooked causes of premature ageing: HEV light.

Self-Tanning Drops: At a Glance

What it is A self-tanning serum with vegetal-origin DHA and Fractionated Melanin, designed to build natural colour while helping defend skin against HEV light.
Best for All skin types seeking a buildable, sun-free glow. No orange undertone, no streaking.
Ideal if You want a natural-looking tan, added defence against daylight and screen-emitted HEV light, and a formula that keeps skin comfortable as colour develops.
Not ideal if You're relying on it for sun protection. The formula defends against HEV light only (not UVA/UVB), so SPF remains essential.
Key benefits Gradual, natural tan over 24 hours · HEV-light defence · Continuous hydration during tanning · Fully adjustable colour intensity

What's in Self-Tanning Drops and how does the colour develop?

Most self-tanners are, in essence, chemistry tricks. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) has been doing the same work since the 1960s, reacting with amino acids on the skin's surface to produce a gradual, believable colour. The Self-Tanning Drops use a vegetal-origin DHA to do exactly this: building a sun-kissed depth over 24 hours that fades naturally as skin renews itself, with no UV exposure required and no orange undertone to apologise for.

The result is colour that reads as genuinely earned: warm, even, and adjustable depending on how many drops you use.

What is HEV light, and why does it matter for your skin?

HEV (high-energy visible) light is the blue and violet-range light emitted by daylight, and increasingly by the screens we spend hours in front of every day. Phones, laptops, tablets: all sources of low-level but cumulative oxidative stress on the skin.

Free radical activity triggered by HEV light accelerates fine lines, dulls the complexion, and degrades elasticity over time. And almost no tanning product on the market has ever addressed it.

Until now.

How do Dr Sebagh Self-Tanning Drops protect against HEV light?

The formula contains Fractionated Melanin, a naturally derived form of the pigment your own skin already produces to protect itself from environmental light. Introduced topically in fractionated form, it gives the skin a functional shield against HEV-light oxidative stress, layered directly into the same product giving you your colour.

The glow and the protection happen in the same two or three drops. That is the distinction.

Will Self-Tanning Drops dry out my skin?

A legitimate concern. Many self-tanners leave skin feeling tight or patchy as colour develops, a side effect of formulas that never considered comfort as part of the brief. Glycerin in the Self-Tanning Drops works as a skin-identical humectant, drawing in and retaining moisture throughout the tanning process. Skin stays soft and comfortable as colour deepens, rather than dry or irritated.

How to use Dr Sebagh Self-Tanning Drops

  1. Prep Cleanse skin thoroughly. For the most even result, pre-exfoliate with the Dr Sebagh Deep Exfoliating Mask. Fresh, smooth skin takes colour more evenly and fades more gradually.
  2. Mix Take two to three drops and mix them into the palm with a pea-sized amount of your usual Dr Sebagh moisturiser or serum.
  3. Apply Apply morning or night to clean skin using your normal application routine. Increase the drops for a deeper colour; reduce them for something more subtle or gradual.
  4. Protect Always follow with a broad-spectrum SPF, such as the Dr Sebagh Vitamin C Brightening Primer SPF 15. The drops protect against HEV light, not UV.

Do I still need SPF if I'm using a self-tanner?

Yes, always. Self-Tanning Drops build colour through a topical chemical reaction, not through any UV-filtering mechanism. The Fractionated Melanin addresses HEV light, which is a different part of the light spectrum to UVA and UVB rays. A broad-spectrum SPF remains essential alongside the drops, every day, regardless of the depth of colour you've built.

The bigger idea: intelligent tanning as a long-term philosophy

Self-Tanning Drops apply the same principle that runs through everything at Dr Sebagh: that skin-maintenance should be built into the products you already use, rather than treated as a separate category to address later. The colour is real. But so is the protection it carries with it.

A glow, yes. One that is working quietly in your skin's favour every time you use it.
