Where It Comes From

Pseudoalteromonas Antarctica NF3 is a marine microorganism found in the extreme conditions of Antarctic waters: sub-zero temperatures, intense UV radiation, high salinity, and hydrostatic pressure. To survive, it produces an array of protective glycoproteins — complex protein-carbohydrate molecules — that shield it from oxidative stress and cellular damage. These same glycoproteins, applied topically, deliver measurable protective and reparative effects in human skin. In the INCI list it appears as PSEUDOALTEROMONAS FERMENT EXTRACT.

Why Fermentation Is Not Simply Extraction

Conventional botanical extraction isolates compounds already present in a plant. Fermentation is a production process: the microorganism is cultivated under controlled conditions and the ferment medium — enriched with secreted glycoproteins — is harvested.
