Discover Your Skin Type

Daily cleansing and moisturising are essential for every skin type. However, different skin types have different needs that require a targeted approach. Establishing a proper skin care routine perfectly suited to your skin type, first requires proper identification.

“The easiest way to determine your skin type is to observe your skin after gentle cleansing. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, like my Foaming Cleanser, and gently pat dry. After 20-30 minutes check-in with your skin. A consistent shine on your skin suggests an oily complexion whereas shine only in a specific area (e.g. T-Zone) points to a combination skin type. Dry skin will feel tight or exhibit flakes and scales. If your skin feels comfortable and is shine-free then you have a normal skin type.” Dr Sebagh

Skin Types

Normal Skin

Characterised by having a natural balance of moisture and oil production, resulting in a complexion that feels neither too oily nor too dry, often associated with a smooth texture, refined pores, and minimal blemishes.

Dry Skin

Dry skin occurs when the skin lacks sufficient moisture and natural oils to keep it hydrated and supple. It can manifest as flakiness, itching, redness and tightness.

Oily Skin

Oily skin results from an overproduction of natural oils known as sebum. This overproduction can lead to a shiny complexion, enlarged pores, and an increased risk of issues like acne and breakouts

Combination Skin

Combination skin is characterised by having a mix of both oily and dry or normal skin in different regions of the face. This is considered one of the most common skin types as most people experience varying levels of oiliness and dryness.

Breakout/ Acne-Prone Skin

Breakout skin is characterised by being prone to blemishes, acne, and uneven skin texture. This is often, but not always, as a result of sebum overproduction.

Mature Skin

As we age, our skin cell turnover slows, collagen deteriorates and sebum production decreases leading to wrinkles, skin laxity, loss of firmness and elasticity. The hormonal imbalances that come with menopause can also lead to pigmentation and sensitivity.

Skin Concerns

Intense Ageing-Maintenance

The natural ageing process can cause fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, sagging and an uneven texture to the skin. Anti-ageing skin concerns require targeted, potent ingredients to aid skin cells to function at their optimum, and maintain the ageing process.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation occurs when melanin is overproduced in certain areas and deposited deep within the skin. Sun induced, triggered by hormones, or a lingering reminder of a breakout, hyperpigmentation appears rapidly and can be a stubborn condition to improve. A consistent routine with potent ingredients can remedy this skin concern.

Acne & Breakouts

Acne and breakouts are caused by a combination of sebum overproduction, dead skin cells and bacteria leading to congestion and inflammation.

Sensitivity

Sensitivity and redness are common concerns characterised by the skin's heightened reactivity and a tendency to develop redness, irritation, or discomfort in response to a variety of factors and triggers.

Oiliness

Occurs when the skin produces an excess of natural oils, known as sebum. This overproduction can lead to a shiny complexion, enlarged pores, and an increased risk of issues like acne and breakouts.

Dryness

Dryness occurs when the skin is lacking in sufficient moisture and natural oils to keep it hydrated and supple. This is either caused by genetic factors or environmental factors, like a damaged skin barrier, which can lead to skin dehydration. Dryness gives rise to flakiness, itching, redness and tightness.

Eyes

The skin around your eyes is one of the first areas to betray the telltale signs of ageing due to its thinness, fragility and the lack of sebaceous glands in the area. As such, a targeted approach is required even from a young age.
