NON-SURGICAL TREATMENTS FOR THE FACE

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Despite the image conjured up by its nickname of the ‘Vampire Facial’, Platelet Rich Plasma facial is not as it sounds. Far from a pallid complexion, after PRP treatment skin appears plumper, more glowing, texture is refined, and fine lines are reduced due to increase in skin elasticity and boosted collagen. PRP treatment is fantastic for rejuvenating skin on your face, crepey under-eye skin, neck, decolletage, upper arms, knees, inner thighs and even to stimulate hair re-growth in patients experiencing hair thinning and loss.

Treatment FAQs

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma treatment makes use of your body’s powerful biochemistry to rejuvenate your skin by stimulating tissue growth which in turn thickens the dermis increasing its elasticity.

Plasma is the ‘liquid’ part of your blood and carries water, salts, enzymes and platelets around your body as well as being the vehicle for red and white blood cells. Extracting the plasma from the rest of the components in your blood isolates the platelets and growth factors increasing their concentration up to 600%. This Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) contains huge amount of bioactive proteins such as Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF) and Signalling Proteins. These proteins initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration by stimulating the growth, proliferation and differentiation of cells in the epidermis. When re-introduced to the epidermis, this Platelet Rich Plasma acts a signal for the body to begin this process, at the same time activating cellular matrix synthesis and encouraging vascularisation in the treatment area.

What does it treat?

PRP is suitable for the face (eyelids, cheeks), neck, décolletage, inner arms, knees, inner thighs. It is especially useful for hair growth.

Details of the procedure

To prepare PRP, a small amount of blood is taken from the patients arm. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins and separates the platelets from the rest of the blood components. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes and increases the concentration of platelets and growth factors up to 600%.

The specially prepared platelet-rich plasma is taken and re-injected into the chosen area via mesotherapy gun. Developed by French doctor Michel Pistor in the 1950s for
pain relief, the mesotherapy gun delivers rapid multiple intradermal
microinjections and is used for a variety of treatments at the Dr Sebagh clinic
such as Meso Glow and Meso Body Slim.

These platelets release special growth factors that lead to tissue healing. By using the concentrated platelets, the growth factors are increased by up to eight times.

Is it painful?

Despite what might be conjured up by the concept of rapid multiple microinjections, PRP is a virtually painless procedure. The mesotherapy uses air and has a very thin needle which may cause, at worst, very minor discomfort. The most uncomfortable part of the procedure is likely to be the initial blood draw, which is performed safely and effectively in the capable hands of our team of doctors at the Dr Sebagh clinic.

What are the risks?

Treatment with PRP is a natural anti-ageing solution which is unique to you as it uses your very own cells. Therefore, the treatment is hypoallergenic with no risk of infection, cross-contamination or adverse reaction.

There is a small risk of bruising with PRP treatment as it involves superficial intra-dermal injections.

How long is the recovery period?

There is little-to-no downtime after PRP treatment, with most patients able to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.

When will I see the effects of the treatment?

The effects of PRP treatment will become apparent after a roughly one to three months, depending on the individual.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of injections performed depends upon the condition of the skin and the treatment area. Age also effects the number of injections required. Typically, younger people generally need fewer injections for the same condition.

We recommend three to four treatments, every 4 to 6 weeks for the best outcome.

For maintenance, we recommend PRP treatment twice a year.
